p0p1 challenge description

Alright, back in the saddle for Lorwyn Eclipsed, after missing both SPM and TLA. Pretty excited for the set and the limited environment looks interesting, hopefully the whole 5 primary/5 secondary archetypes thing works out. It does mean that I think my picks may skew towards the 5 typal/primary archetypes because of the additional support, but maybe the ‘obviousness’ will make them worse? Let’s find out!

My Picks:

  • W: Liminal Hold

Going for the safe pick of the Banishing Light variant. The 2 life on Makeshift Binding was pretty nice, and while 4 is more than 3, being able to hit pesky artifacts and enchantments is great. Other considerations are Goldmeadow Nomad which just looks like a pretty solid workhorse - rectangles!

  • U: Temporal Cleansing

In exchange for being sorcery instead of instant, this effect now puts it second from the top instead of on top, and also had convoke. Plus, like Liminal Hold, it can hit noncreatures as well. Also in consideration is Blossombind, which is a pacifism effect that doesn't let your opponent 'sacrifice' the pacified creature with -1/-1 counters.

  • B: Dawnhand Eulogist

I mean who knows I keep getting baited by this style of cards, but if you have sufficient elves in your deck not only does the self mill fuel your synergies, it's also a Vampire Spawn! Yes, you do have to be in elves, but I'll take the bet that it will be a reasonable spot to be.

  • R: Brambleback Brute

A 3 mana 2/3 that can eventually grow into a 4/5, all while pushing aggressively. Seems good to me, with the alternatives mostly being removal spells. Red in general looks stompier and more midrange than it usually is, and this seems a good fit.

  • G: Mistmeadow Council

It just replaces itself. Even if you hard cast it for 5 it's not that bad, and with the changelings running around and the fact that you'll incidentally have kithkin in your green deck? I think this card is pretty hot

  • bonus common 1: Blight Rot

Yeah let's pick up some of these efficient removal spells in the bonus section, I think. I was also debating Cinder Strike, but I think Blight Rot always hitting for 4 and leaving behind the -1/-1 counters for bigger threats is pretty notable

  • bonus common 2: Dream Seizer

Gonna bet on black, I guess. I think this card is secretly really good, a 3/2 flier does die to a fair amount of removal spells but if it doesn't it's really annoying. Basically, this starts looking kind of like a Refurbished Familiar and that card was annoying as hell

  • 2CUDS: Deepchannel Duelist

I promise it's not just the RKF art, though it is hot. I was between this and Thoughtweft Lieutenant for being typal signposts that contributed most to board presence. The Kithkin is more bursty and better at pushing aggression, but Deepchannel Duelist letting you push while untapping your biggest guy as a blocker seems more flexible. Plus, I think I like some of the blue interaction

  • Tiebreaker: Sanar, Innovative First-Year

You do have to untap with it, and you can whiff (flip into two cards of the same color, or flip into colorless spells) but with Sanar adding two colors to vivid himself it's not too hard to imagine yourself hitting 3 or 4 each turn and just drowning your opponent in card advantage
